Embolization
Embolization techniques involve the delivery of clotting agents (metal coils, plastic particles, gel-foam, etc.) directly to an area that is bleeding or to block blood flow to medical problems like an aneurysm or tumor. Embolizations performed by an interventional radiologist can sometimes prevent the need for major open surgeries. Small catheters and wires are inserted through a tiny skin incision and are guided using x-ray imaging to the area needing treatment.
