Gastrostomy and gastrojejunostomy

Doctors may sometimes recommend placing a gastrostomy tube or “feeding tube” into the stomach for conditions in which a patient is unable to take sufficient nutrition by mouth. With these procedures, a feeding tube is inserted through a small nick in the skin and into the stomach or small intestine under x-ray image guidance. Liquid nutrition can then be delivered through the tube directly into the digestive tract.
