Biopsy
Biopsy is a procedure performed by radiologists to identify the cause of an abnormality or finding in the body that is usually first identified on diagnostic imaging. During the procedure, the doctor uses image guidance to direct a small needle into the tissue or organ being investigated. A tiny piece of tissue is removed and submitted for additional testing. A pathologist will look at the specimen under a microscope to determine the diagnosis — for example: cancer, a noncancerous growth, infection or scar.
