Pseudoaneurysm thrombin injections

A pseudoaneurysm is an abnormal collection of blood outside an artery and may occur as a complication following arterial catheter insertion (e.g. for cardiac catheterization). This type of complication once required surgical correction; however, more recently thrombin injection has emerged as a first line treatment. A simple ultrasound guided thrombin injection promotes clotting and resolution of the pseudoaneurysm, while leaving the healthy artery open with normal blood flow.
