Testicular vein embolization

Testicular vein embolization is used to treat men with varicoceles. When a testicular vein no longer drains blood effectively because of malfunctioning valves, the blood pools and the veins in the scrotum may enlarge and cause symptoms like testicular pain and infertility. The interventional radiologist will introduce a small catheter through a leg vein and place it within the testicular vein using image guidance. The problematic vein can then be closed off thereby relieving pain and improving fertility. The procedure lasts about an hour and the patient can go home that day with very few restrictions. Testicular vein embolization is an excellent option for patients who want to avoid the risks and recovery time associated with surgery.
