Tunneled pleural or peritoneal catheter

Recurring fluid in the chest or abdomen can be a significant source of discomfort and can make breathing more difficult. By placing a permanent tunneled catheter into the chest or abdominal fluid collection, this allows for the patient to drain the fluid in the comfort of their own home. Placing a tunneled catheter eliminates the need for the patient to make repeated trips to the interventional radiology department to have the fluid drained. These catheters are an excellent option for select patients, and the interventional radiologist will determine if this is the best option for you.
